4G & OpenVPN Router Module Setup Manual

This manual explains how to configure the JideTech AF791 4G router module, including SIM card installation, APN settings, Wi-Fi and LAN configuration, wireless bridge mode, and OpenVPN client setup.

Security Notice: Change both the default Wi-Fi password and the router administrator password before deploying the equipment. Do not leave the factory credentials active on an installed camera.

1. Product Overview

The AF791 is a compact router module installed inside selected JideTech 4G cameras. It provides mobile-network access, two 10/100 Mbps LAN interfaces, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, APN configuration, LAN routing, wireless bridge functions, and an OpenVPN client for secure remote access.

2. Hardware and Quick-Start Requirements

  1. Power off the camera and insert an activated Nano-SIM card in the correct direction.
  2. Connect the cellular antenna and Wi-Fi antenna securely before powering on the camera.
  3. Connect the camera network cable to one of the router module LAN interfaces.
  4. Use a regulated DC 12 V power supply.
  5. Power on the unit and wait until the cellular connection becomes stable.
  6. Connect a computer or mobile phone to the Wi-Fi network beginning with MIFI_.
  7. Open 192.168.2.1 in a browser and log in using the administrator credentials.
Hold the Reset button for more than five seconds to restore the router module to its factory settings.

3. Configure the 4G Connection

Confirm the Cellular Status

Open the Network Map or 4G Modem Setting page. A normal connection should display a valid signal level, mobile operator information, and an assigned WAN IP address.

APN Settings

Most standard SIM cards obtain the APN automatically. Private APN, enterprise SIM, or operator-specific SIM cards may require manual configuration.

  1. Open Advanced Settings > 4G Modem Setting > 4G Modem.
  2. Enable the 4G modem if it is disabled.
  3. Enter the APN supplied by the mobile network operator.
  4. Select IPv4 unless the operator specifies another PDP type.
  5. Select NONE, PAP, or CHAP authentication as required.
  6. Enter the username and password only when supplied by the operator.
  7. Click Apply, save the settings, and restart the router.

After changing the APN settings, save the configuration and restart the router before testing the connection. Do not redial immediately before restarting.

4. Wi-Fi, LAN and Wireless Bridge Settings

Wi-Fi Settings

Open Advanced Settings > Wireless 2.4GHz > General to change the Wi-Fi SSID, password, wireless channel and encryption method.

LAN Settings

Open Advanced Settings > LAN > LAN IP to change the router LAN address and subnet mask. The factory LAN address is 192.168.2.1.

Before enabling OpenVPN, confirm that the router LAN subnet does not overlap with the remote office network, VPN server network, or mobile operator network. Subnet conflicts are a common reason why the VPN connects but the camera remains unreachable.

Wireless Bridge / WISP

When wireless client mode is enabled, the router can connect to an existing Wi-Fi network and use it as an alternative Internet source.

5. Configure the OpenVPN Client

OpenVPN creates an encrypted tunnel between the 4G router and a VPN server. Authorized remote computers, NVRs, and management platforms can then access the camera or other devices on the router LAN without exposing the camera directly to the public Internet.

Information Required from the VPN Administrator

  • OpenVPN server IP address or domain name
  • Server port and UDP or TCP protocol
  • OpenVPN client profile or .ovpn file
  • CA certificate and client certificate
  • Client key and TLS key, when required
  • Username and password, when required
  • Remote routes or accessible LAN subnets
  • Camera and router network information

OpenVPN Setup Procedure

  1. Open the VPN Client menu.
  2. Create a new client profile and select OpenVPN.
  3. Enable the OpenVPN profile.
  4. Import the .ovpn profile when supported by the router firmware.
  5. When manual entry is required, enter the server address, port, protocol, credentials and certificates exactly as supplied.
  6. Enable route redirection only when the network design requires all router traffic to pass through the VPN.
  7. Click Save or Apply and start the OpenVPN client.

Profile Name A clear name such as Customer-VPN or Site-01
Server Address Public IP address or domain name of the OpenVPN server
Port Port supplied by the VPN administrator
Protocol UDP or TCP, matching the server configuration
Authentication Certificate, username/password, or both
CA / Client Certificates Upload or paste the certificate files supplied by the VPN administrator
Client Key / TLS Key Use the matching private-key information
Remote Route VPN or remote subnet that must have access to the camera LAN

Verify the OpenVPN Connection

  1. Confirm that the VPN Client status shows Connected or an equivalent active status.
  2. Check the System Log for certificate, authentication, connection, or routing errors.
  3. From the remote VPN network, ping the router LAN address or camera LAN address.
  4. Test the camera web interface, VMS, RTSP stream, or ONVIF connection using the camera LAN or VPN address.
  5. Restart the router and confirm that the OpenVPN client reconnects automatically after power recovery.
OpenVPN functions may vary by firmware version. Some versions support direct .ovpn file import, while others require manual parameter entry. Do not guess certificate, authentication, or route settings.

6. Basic Troubleshooting

Problem Items to Check

VPN is connected but the camera is unreachable LAN subnet conflict, missing route, firewall rules and camera gateway settings
VPN connection drops repeatedly 4G signal, SIM data limits, MTU, UDP/TCP protocol and keepalive settings
VPN stops working after a restart Enable automatic start and automatic reconnection for the VPN profile
Certificate error Check the CA certificate, client certificate, client key, TLS key and router system time

Important App Compatibility Notice

This user manual applies only to JideTech products that use the VideoLink app.

Some earlier JideTech products use the CamHi Pro app and may have a different router module, network configuration, or setup procedure.
